Horses Atlas

Sources and rights

This page gathers where the cards, photographs, articles, events and map points come from. The credit for a particular photograph stays next to that photograph.

Catalog

The name, short description and country of origin come from Wikidata under CC0. The Wikidata class is “horse breed”, Q1160573. Pages are built ahead of time: opening a card does not make a new query.

The Wikipedia link goes to the Wikipedia article. That article’s text is not copied onto Horses Atlas. When a Ukrainian or Polish name is missing, the card shows the English name. When the description is in another language, a short language code sits beside it.

Photographs

A picture enters the catalog only from Wikimedia Commons, and only when the file metadata states CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA or public domain. “Non-commercial” and “no derivatives” marks are rejected.

The photographs do not share one license. The author and the license of the individual file sit under the image on the breed card and in the gallery.

Editorial notes

Height, typical coat colours and use are filled in by hand for some well-known breeds, so the catalog can be filtered. They are a browsing hint, not a measurement of one horse and not an official breed standard.

Journal

Articles are written for this site. A draft is not published until its file is marked published. Care and health pieces stay drafts until a person checks them. The site does not give doses, feeding amounts or treatment plans.

Events and the photo contest

An event is published after review. It needs a date, a place, an original sentence and a link to the organizer. The text and design of someone else’s poster are not copied.

The photographer keeps the copyright and gives the site a non-exclusive permission to show the picture on horsesatlas.com and in the month’s archive. That permission can be withdrawn. Only a reviewed photograph is shown.

Map

A point on the map is the place Wikidata names as the breed’s country or region of origin. The point does not show where the breed lives now, how many horses remain, or where they travel.
